I have always loved making things and from a young age I developed my drawing, art and design skills. I completed a BA Fashion and Textiles at Cheltenham School of Art, where I learnt to design and make clothes and create surface pattern, specialising in screenprinting. I later went on to teach at a Sixth Form College, teaching A Level Fashion and Textiles and also on their Art Foundation Course. Teaching was alot of fun and a great creative environment to work in. Along the way I taught myself a host of other textiles techniques, so that I could pass on my knowledge to my students. Many of them have gone off to University to pursue their own paths in Fashion and Textiles. The downside of teaching was that it takes up alot of your time and you get restless, and I yearned to be able to have the time to create my own ideas. So, last year my famiy and I decided that it was time for a change, we were all looking for something different. So, we moved to the Isle of Wight to have a completely new lifestyle, living by the sea.
Moving to the Island has started a new chapter for me. I now live in a little beach cottage, right next to the beach where I can soak up all the inspiration that the coast has to offer. My day usually starts with a walk on the beach with my dog Bella and then back to my studio. When we moved here, I knew that I wanted to focus on pattern, in some shape or form. So, I have spent some time exploring through different media and techniques and from this I have started developing prints and patterns for fabric. My work will evolve and grow, but for now I am mostly working with blockprinting, both on paper and fabric and also incorporating stitched elements.
